Divya Bharti, one of Bollywood’s rising stars in the early 1990s, passed away on April 5, 1993, after a fatal fall from her Mumbai apartment. She was just 19. In a recent interview with Siddharth Kannan, her Shola Aur Shabnam co-star, Guddi, shared insights into the late actress’s emotional state before her untimely demise.
According to Guddi, Divya was a vibrant yet troubled soul who lived life without fear. “She was a nice girl but a little messed up. I don’t know about her childhood, but she seemed disturbed. She lived life as if today was her last day,” she said.
Guddi recalled celebrating her birthday with Divya, Sajid Nadiadwala, and Govinda just a day before the incident. “She seemed fine at the party, but I felt she was a little sad. She had to leave for an outdoor shoot but didn’t want to go,” she added.
Recounting an eerie incident, Guddi mentioned seeing Divya sitting dangerously on her fifth-floor parapet days before her death. “She called out to me from above, her legs dangling. I told her it wasn’t safe, but she casually said, ‘Kuch nahi hota (Nothing will happen).’”
Guddi also revealed that Divya’s then-husband, producer Sajid Nadiadwala, was devastated by her sudden passing. “He wasn’t home when it happened. She leaned forward to check if his car had arrived, and that’s when she fell,” she said.
Fashion designer Neeta Lulla was reportedly present at the time of the tragedy. “They were talking when Divya turned to look for the car, and Neeta saw her fall,” Guddi claimed.
Divya Bharti’s death remains one of Bollywood’s most shocking tragedies, leaving fans and the film industry in mourning.
